In the week from 10 to 14 February 2025, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport of Charles University held its traditional Welcome Week, designed for newly arrived international students. The event was organised in cooperation with the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University and offered a varied programme focused on sports activities, cultural adaptation and introducing students to the academic environment and the beauty of Prague.
A programme full of sports and interesting activities
Welcome Week kicked off on Monday 10 February with a short warm-up exercise for international students at the Jinonice campus of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Charles University. In the evening, students had the opportunity to play volleyball in the inflatable hall of FTVS UK.
On Tuesday, 11 February, a basketball tournament was prepared for students at FTVS UK, where they had the opportunity to get acquainted during a team game. At the same time, an intercultural workshop was held at FSV UK, which helped students to better understand the Czech environment and culture.
Wednesday morning, 12 February, offered a crash course in the Czech language in Jinonice, which provided participants with basic language skills for everyday communication. This was followed by a tour of Prague with students from FTVS UK, during which the participants got acquainted with the most famous historical sights of the city. In the afternoon, a fun game of Scavenger Hunt took place in the Hollar building, which motivated students to actively explore the university environment.
On Thursday, February 13, students were able to experience free access to the Open Gym at Europa, where they had the opportunity to engage in various fitness activities. In addition to sports, there was also a lecture on the modern history of Czechoslovakia at FSV UK.
The last day of Welcome Week, Friday 14 February, offered students a relaxing Energy Medicine workshop aimed at boosting physical and mental health. Welcome games were then held at FTVS UK to help students connect with their new classmates. The whole programme was rounded off with MindRun, a running activity that combined movement with mental wellbeing.
A successful start to the new semester
Welcome Week at FTVS UK was a great opportunity for new students to meet their classmates, get acquainted with the university environment and actively participate in student life. Thanks to the cooperation with FSV UK, it was possible to create a varied and attractive programme that made it easier for students to adapt to the new environment.
