FTVS UK Introduces Its Own Gender Equality Plan

The Faculty of Physical Education and Sport at Charles University (FTVS UK) has developed its first Gender Equality Plan (GEP), reflecting the university’s broader commitment to gender equality. This plan is tailored to the specific context of the faculty, which focuses on sports and academic research, and covers the period 2025–2027.

The goal of the FTVS GEP is to foster a safer, fairer, and more inclusive environment for all members of the faculty community. At the same time, it supports the faculty’s strategic ambition to create an equitable and high-performing academic and professional setting. The plan outlines concrete steps to translate university-wide goals into measures that resonate with the faculty’s unique culture, disciplines, and diverse community.

The development of the FTVS GEP was made possible through the faculty’s participation in the international SUPPORTER project, which assists institutions in Central and Eastern Europe in creating innovative, intersectional, inclusive, and impactful equality plans. Thanks to this collaboration, FTVS gained access to comparative perspectives and best practices from abroad, allowing the faculty to position its own efforts within a broader European framework. The project also deepened the faculty’s understanding of equality in the context of sports education and research, enabling FTVS UK to actively contribute to shaping shared European standards in this field.

The FTVS UK Gender Equality Plan 2025–2027 builds on the first university-wide GEP of Charles University for the period 2022–2024, which laid the foundation and identified initial key areas for promoting equality. However, the new faculty plan represents a significant advancement in terms of its scope, structure, and strategic orientation.

One of its key innovations is an explicit focus on intersectionality – recognizing and addressing overlapping and interconnected forms of inequality based on gender, age, ethnicity, disability, or socioeconomic background. While the university-wide plan primarily focused on gender equality between women and men, the FTVS UK GEP embraces a broader range of issues and responds to the complex realities of vulnerability in academia. This shift creates a more inclusive and comprehensive framework for promoting equality within the faculty.
