State Examination (SE) - Bachelor's Degree in Physiotherapy

1. Defence of the final bachelor thesis:

- students present to the examination committee the decisive points and results of their bachelor thesis (recommended PowerPoint presentation, max. 7-10 minutes);

- after the student's presentation, the thesis supervisor and subsequently the thesis opponent announce their evaluation; if the thesis opponent or advisor is not personally present at the thesis defence, their opinions are read out in full;

- a public discussion between the student and the members of the examination board is followed by a 'closed' discussion of the final assessment, after which the student is notified of the final grade.

NOTE: the opinions of the thesis supervisor and the thesis opponent are published in SIS at least 3 days before the theoretical state examinations.

A student who successfully passes the defence of his/her bachelor thesis continues in the SE with the theoretical examination immediately after the presentation of the bachelor thesis. A student who fails to defend his/her thesis does not continue in the SE.

2. Theoretical SE

The theoretical SE consists of 4 subjects: Clinical Kinesiology, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Pathological Physiology and Physical Medicine.

The student draws one question (topic area) from each subject of the theoretical SE, which may be further specified by the examination board.

The student will answer the questions in the order determined by the examination board. Each subject of the SE is assessed separately. If the student is not successful in the examination, he/she repeats in the next term of the SE only the subject he/she failed to pass successfully (according to the Study and Examination Regulations of UK FTVS).

NOTE: despite failure in any part of the theoretical examination (except for the defence of the Bachelor's thesis), students may continue in the practical part of the SE.

3. Practical SE in physiotherapy

In the practical SE, the student demonstrates his/her knowledge, skills and abilities in the assessment of the clinical condition of the assigned patient. The student outlines, determines and applies appropriate physiotherapy methods in the design of therapy for a given patient (diagnosis is determined by a physician). The knowledge and skills to be tested are based on the Bachelor's degree programme in Physiotherapy.

Physiotherapy examination:

1. The student receives the patient's documentation with all relevant anamnestic medical records.

2. Preparation with the patient (no examining committee present) - student has a 30 minute limit for a kinesiological examination of the patient and outline therapeutic procedures based on the previous examination.

3. Practical examination (in the presence of the examining committee) - takes approximately 30 minutes. During the practical examination, the student will present and practically perform:

- evaluation of the conclusions of the kinesiological examination;

- designing goals and suggestions for therapeutic procedures;

- application of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to a given patient.

4. Protocol - after fulfilling all the requirements of the practical SE, students submit to the examination committee a written record describing the patient's history and the applied examination procedures, including their results. The written record is included in the SE protocol.

5. The result - evaluation of the student's performance is carried out by the examination committee and is announced on the same day as the practical SE.

State Examination (SE) - Continuing Master's Degree APLICATED PHYSICAL THERAPY

1. Defence of the final diploma thesis:

- students present to the examination committee the decisive points and results of their master's thesis (recommended PowerPoint presentation, max. 7-10 minutes);

- after the student's presentation, the thesis supervisor and then the thesis opponent announce their evaluation; if the thesis opponent or supervisor is not personally present at the thesis defence, their opinions are read in full;

A student who successfully completes the defence of his/her thesis continues in the SE by taking the theoretical examination immediately after the presentation of the thesis. A student who fails to defend his/her thesis does not continue in the SE.

2. Theoretical SE

Theoretical SE consists of 3 subjects: Theoretical exam from the thematic area of applied physiotherapy; Theoretical exam from the thematic areas of clinical and developmental kinesiology; Theoretical exam from the thematic areas of biomechanics and objectification methods.

The student draws one question (thematic area) from each subject of theoretical SE, which can be further specified by the examination committee.

The student answers the questions in the order determined by the examination committee. Each subject is assessed separately. If the student is not successful in the examination, he/she repeats in the next term of the SE only the subject that he/she failed to pass successfully (according to the Study and Examination Regulations of the UK FTVS).

NOTE: despite failure in any part of the theoretical examination (except for the thesis defence), students may continue in the practical part of the SE.

3. Practical SE in applied physiotherapy

In the practical SE, the student demonstrates his/her knowledge, skills and abilities in the assessment of the clinical condition of the assigned patient. The student outlines a differential analysis of the condition, determines and applies appropriate physiotherapy methods to the patient (diagnosis is determined by a physician). Certified knowledge and skills are based on the bachelor's and master's degree programme in Applied physiotherapy.

The course of physiotherapy examination:

1. The student will receive patient documentation with all relevant medical history.

- evaluation of clinically relevant anamnestic data, creation of a differential diagnostic balance sheet and defining the conclusions of the kinesiological examination;

- designing goals and therapeutic procedures;

- application of diagnostic, analytical and complex therapeutic procedures to a given patient.

4. Protocol - After completing all requirements of the practical SE, students will submit to the examination committee a written record describing the patient's history and the examination procedures used, including their results. The written record is included in the SE protocol.

5. The outcome - the evaluation of the student's performance is carried out by the examination committee and is announced on the same day as the practical SE.
